2024 Go Baby Go

Date: March 30, April 2, and April 13, 2024

About

After completing four successful Go Baby Go cars, the executive board built their fifth with a goal of solidifying the instructions so that members outside of exec could participate in adapting a Go Baby Go Car in the future.

Two weeks before delivery day, we started by disassembling and rewiring the back of the car. This involved adding a kill switch so that the parents could immediately shut off the car, and adding a relay for electrical safety. Then, three days later, we worked on the front of the car. The gas pedal was rewired to a 3D printed “Go” button that was secured to the steering wheel. A second relay was also added to the front wiring. Once the electrical modifications were complete, the car was reassembled. Thanks to one of our partners, Vanderbilt Hillel, we got to enjoy lunch together as we worked!

April 13th was delivery day! Frances, our Need Knower, is a two-year-old girl with arteriovenous malformation. She had her first stroke a month prior, leading to a loss of speech and mobility. Her family and occupational therapist came to the Wond’ry to determine the physical supports needed in the car to keep Frances safe. These supports included a 5-point harness and head supports.

Lastly, the car was decorated to be Bluey-themed, including a custom license plate!

Following the successful creation of instructions and our fifth car, TOM: Vanderbilt plans to host a Go Baby Go build party in Spring 2025!
